DRIVERS' HEALTH * UK - Diabetic drivers get boost from DVLA consultation
Consultation: People with diabetes should be allowed to become truck drivers ?
London,UK -Road Transport, by Chris Tindall -7 October 2010: -- The DVLA says it will launch a consultation by the end of the year into whether people with diabetes should be allowed to become truck drivers... After a year during which the agency first dragged its heels and then announced it did not have to change the law, the news that a public consultation is imminent has been welcomed by would-be drivers afflicted with the disorder... Diabetes UK waded into the row and said it would fight against the status quo because it would mean that the DVLA was "insisting on stricter criteria than is legally necessary"... A DVLA spokesman says the consultation will be issued "as soon as possible, at the latest by the end of the year" and will last 12 weeks...
