Manhasset,N.Y.,,USA -Transport Topics, by Frederick Kiel -30 Aug 2010: -- Truck manufacturers delivered vehicles with 66,494 Class 8 engines during the first half of the year, WardsAuto.com reported last week, but most of the power plants do not meet 2010 federal emissions regulations, manufacturers and analysts said... Two industry consultants said that was the result of manufacturers’ drawing down their inventories of 2009 engines... Daimler Trucks North America’s, Freightliner brand, was the Class 8 market leader with 19,651 new trucks shipped through June 30, however, 25% at most had 2010-compliant engines... “We can confirm 5,000 units [with 2010 engines] on the road now,” the spokeswoman for DTNA, Maria McCullough, told TT last week. ... * USA - FTR reports improved truck orders for August
Santa Fe Springs,CAL,USA -Fleet Owner -Sep 3, 2010: -- Preliminary data for August indicates an improvement in Class 8 truck total net orders, according to the latest numbers from FTR Associates... Orders for all major North American OEMs came in at 12,337 units, an 8.3% increase over July’s net orders and 16.8% better than August 2009. The orders closely match the six-month average of 13,000 units... “August net orders for Class 8 vehicles came in about where we expected, very similar to July numbers,” Eric Starks, FTR president, said. “We didn't see any particular reason that they would be substantially different, and we believe for the balance of the year orders will continue to be received at comparable levels"...
