* China - BAIC to tap Indian marketing with buses & trucks. Increasing demand from the Indian automobile market has made the country a key place for big car manufacturers to expand business

Shanghai,China -Bloomberg/Gasgoo, by Amanda Zheng -August 30, 2010: ... Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. (BAIC), the Chinese partner of Daimler AG, plans to start selling commercial vehicles in India as economic expansion spurs demand for trucks... BAIC, also partner of South Korea's Hyundai Motor, is intended to tap the Indian market through its subsidiary, Beiqi Foton Motor, one of China's major truck makers... The Indian government aims to achieve high economic growth of 8.5% this year, which will certainly spur demand for trucks and buses. Meanwhile, India expects to invest $1 trillion in construction of other infrastructure from 2012 to 2017, according to sources... As part of its overseas expansion, BAIC also plans to sell vehicles in Brazil, Russia, Mexico and Thailand through establishing joint ventures or car factories... * Sweden - Scania inks development deal with Porsche

Stockholm,Sweden -Reuters, by Christiaan Hetzner/Frankfurt,GERM & Sharon Lindores -Aug 30, 2010: -- Swedish truckmaker Scania will develop new truck cabs with Porsche Engineering, in another step toward firming up ties under the Volkswagen umbrella... German auto group Volkswagen holds a majority voting stake in Scania and late last year took control of Porsche, with an eye to completing a merger with the luxury carmaker in 2011... Volkswagen has in recent years pushed for closer ties between Scania and another company in which it has a stake, German truckmaker MAN. Volkswagen owns shares equal to 71 percent of Scania votes and nearly 30 percent of MAN's... Scania said on Monday the two companies would develop the next generation of cab frames for its heavy-duty trucks... Last month, Scania said it would study several areas of collaboration with MAN SE, including gear boxes and axles, as the companies thawed out relations badly frayed by a failed 2006 takeover attempt by the German truckmaker...


* Sweden - Volvo reveals new gas-fuelled tractor

Göteborg,Sweden -Road Transport, by Brian Weatherley -1 September 2010: -- Volvo provided a sneak preview of its latest gas-fuelled FM artic last weekend at the Elmia Truck Show in Sweden, ahead of this month's IAA Exhibition in Hannover... The 460hp, 6x2 tractor was built in Gothenburg with a conversion kit provided by UK gas-fuelling system supplier Clean Air Power. Methane is stored as liquefied natural gas (LNG) in a 300-litre tank and injected as a gas/air mixture into the intake manifold before being ignited in the combustion chamber by a 'pilot charge' of diesel injected into the cylinder... Under normal conditions, between 50% and 80% of the diesel fuel is substituted by the cheaper LNG, and when the gas runs out, the FM's 13-litre engine operates as a conventional diesel. * India - Mahindra Navistar’s heavy truck, MN25 to cost INR 15.40 lakhs


Bengaluru,Bangalore,Karnataka,India -Logistics Week (Singapore), by NewsDesk -31 Aug 2010: -- After unveiling its entire range of high performance heavy commercial vehicles (HCV) trucks at the Auto Expo 2010, and announcing start of production of their first truck offering – the MN25 – earlier this year, Mahindra Navistar Automotives Ltd. today inaugurated its new, state-of-the-art dealership in Bengaluru... The new 25 ton truck, MN25 would cost Rs.15.40 lakhs in Bengaluru...


* France - New van models unveiled by Renault/Vauxhall

Batilly,N.France -Road Transport, by Colin Barnett -2 September 2010: -- The latest stage of the joint Renault Master/Vauxhall Movano range was exclusively revealed to CM and the other International Van of the Year jury members today at Renault's factory in Batilly, northern France... The initial panel van line-up is joined by chassis and double cab versions and a range of factory-built bodies including tippers and dropsides, and box bodies up to 22m³ volume... The only significant gap in the range is now the short wheelbase, low-roof panel van which enters production in October...
