David Paterson, and local leaders on Tuesday praised the actions of the state Department of Transportation for reducing the number of trucks traveling through the Finger Lakes region. But local farmers say policies and initiatives aimed at cutting down the amount of garbage haulers actually cause the local trucks more headaches. Among the DOT’s initiatives is an increase in truck inspections in the area. According to a news release from Paterson’s office, the number of truck inspections in the region has nearly doubled, and local officials are working with the DOT to suggest locations... Greenfield said the troopers should have moved to another location if their goal was to stop trash trucks. Instead, they started pulling over vehicles going to local farms. Greenfield’s trucks received violations for a cracked reflector on a mudflap and for a driver having a photo copy of a permit...
