TRUCKS SALES WORLDWIDE * UK - Registrations look bleak until 2011

London,UK -Road Transport, by Ian Tonkin -19 July 2010: -- Truck registration figures will continue to fall throughout 2010, only stabilising in the second quarter of 2011, according to forecasts from the UK's truck manufacturers... The SMMT's latest figures show a 16% drop in truck registrations for the first half of 2010 compared with the same period in 2009, but Iveco's director for brand and communications, Nigel Emms, says that this year's final total is unlikely to surpass 2009's... Emms adds: "Order intake is very strong at present, but it is unlikely to boost truck sales significantly. Last year total truck sales [vehicles above 6.0 tonnes GVW] amounted to 35,000 units and we're forecasting it to be around the 32,000-mark by year-end" ... This view is echoed by Sam Whittaker, truck sales and marketing director at Mercedes-Benz...

Munich, Germany -MAN's P.R. -7 July 2010: -- Belgian-based H. Essers Group has placed a large order for no fewer than 350 vehicles with MAN, thus confirming its confidence in the German engineering company with whom the group has collaborated for more than 15 years. The 350 vehicles will be delivered during the course of 2010 and 2011, and will be deployed throughout Europe. The order includes TGM, TGS and TGX trucks which are mainly used in heavy goods and long-distance transport. Almost all of Essers’ fleet — a total of more than 1000 trucks — is made up of MAN vehicles... The H. Essers Group, founded in 1928 by Henri Essers, is currently one of Europe’s biggest players in the logistics and transport industry...
