* USA - NYC's Truckers favor in. The study showed that travel speeds from a truck depot to a delivery driver’s first stop in Manhattan improved by 75 percent

As part of a pilot program, the agencies established partnerships between delivery companies and businesses to allow off-peak deliveries between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m... The results were encouraging for the 33 delivery companies and 25 business locations participating in the pilot... Truckers were able to reduce curbside wait times from 100 minutes to just 30 minutes by making the switch. Delivery routes with multiple stops were sped up by an average of 48 minutes per truck... Around the country, truckers continue to be at the mercy of just-in-time deliveries and are forced to travel through congested areas at the worst possible times... * Europe - Transport minister underlines support for quiet night-time deliveries

London,UK -NSFrits, by Ms Lucy Straker -(originally published on) 18 March, 2010: -- Speaking at the Freight Transport Association's Urban Logistics Conference, Transport Minister, Paul Clark, reinforced his view that quiet night-time deliveries can tackle urban congestion, reduce carbon emissions and engender more reliable deliveries without impacting on the lives of local residents... HGV deliveries in urban areas are often limited during night-time and weekend periods, therefore increasing traffic volume and carbon emissions at peak hours. Quiet night-time deliveries will remove lorries from busy, urban roads without necessitating major infrastructural investment... The results of a three month night-time delivery trial in 2007 concluded that if strict best practice procedures were followed then the supermarket in question would save a great deal of money, reduce its carbon footprint and improve the reliability of its supply chain. Just as importantly, the trial returned no complaints from residents... The QDDS will run until March 2011...


* UK - DfT-funded silent-night trial a success

London,EN,UK -Road Transport, by Chris Tindall -21 July 2010: -- The first of six Department for Transport-funded quiet-delivery trials has been a success... The month-long trial, which involved an as-yet unnamed retailer relaxing a curfew on store deliveries, attracted no complaints from local residents, claims Quiet Delivery Demonstration Scheme (QDDS) manager Chris Douglas... This means the local authority will allow the store to continue receiving late-night deliveries indefinitely... The QDDS is being run by a consortium involving the Freight Transport Association, Transport Research Laboratory and the Noise Abatement Society... Meanwhile, Sainsbury's in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, has been banned from taking deliveries after 7pm after locals complained about the noise... A planning inspector found that "inconsiderate operation of deliv-eries outside of the permitted hours is plainly causing significant harm to residents' living conditions" ...
