* Venezuela - Eyes shares of lucrative Belarus truck-makers
Minsk,Belarus -European Radio for Belarus -30 June 2010: -- Venezuela can acquire part of shares of Belarus' leading truck-makers MAZ and BelAZ, Venezuelan Ambassador in Minsk, Americo Diaz Nunez, today told reporters. But, any concrete decision is yet to be taken. Venezuela's president Hugo Chavez is expected to visit Minsk in the autumn. That's when the two sides can reach a certain agreement... The diplomat said that Venezuela bought thousands of tractors, trucks, buses and spare parts from Belarus in order to help Belarus support its industrial production and keep jobs for workers...
* UK - Isuzu’s new 18tonne refrigerated truck launched as demo
London,UK -Transport Engineer, by Brian Tinham -7 July 2010: -- Isuzu has put a new 18-tonne 4x2 refrigerated demo vehicle into service boasting a 9 tonne-plus payload and unlimited mileage three-year warranty on the body, refrigeration system and chassis/cab... The new Isuzu F180.260 18tonne rigid has a Gray & Adams 24ft dual compartment refrigerated body, fitted with a moveable bulkhead, for operating with chilled and frozen goods... The cab is Isuzu's roomy new Hexapod design day/rest cab: some operators convert the cab into a sleeper simply by fitting curtains and a night heater. It also has good cross-cab access and equipment such an air suspended driver's seat, dual SRS airbags, cruise control, exhaust brake, keyless door entry, immobiliser and radio/CD player, all as standard... * UK - Tesco.com to trial biomethane as part of massive Iveco Daily order
London,UK -Transport Engineer -8 July 2010: -- Tesco's online shopping subsidiary, is taking delivery of 795 Iveco Daily light commercials, of which 25 are EcoDailys, powered by compressed biomethane (CBM) in a major trial of the technology... In comparison with diesel, Gasrec's CBM reduces particulate emissions by 90%, NOx by 60% and SO2 by 50%. Noise from the engine is also reduced by around 30%... As for the remaining 770 Dailys, these are 35S11 AGiles, with the six-speed automated transmission, which provides a choice of automatic or manual sequential gear selection for stop-start work... These are the latest AGile models, with revised control software claimed to improve the driving experience, by allowing driver-initiated down-shifting for engine brake performance and anticipating traffic conditions without exiting from the fully automatic mode. The system also analyses pressure applied to the accelerator and adapts its response to the driver's style...
* Holland - DAF first to offer all engines to EEV specification
Eindhoven,The Netherlands -Transport Engineer, by Brian Tinham -8 July 2010: -- DAF says it is now offering its 6.7 litre Paccar GR-engine and several versions of the 12.9 litre Paccar MX-engine in EEV (enhanced environmentally-friendly vehicle) versions, without the need for DPFs (diesel particulate filters)... DAF first to offer all engines to EEV specification, compliant vehicles emit at least 33% less particulates than current Euro 5 emission engines, and DAF is the first truck manufacturer to have its entire engine range available in the ultra-low emission format... What's more, eliminating the DPF "by optimising the engine management system", means a weight advantage of about 30kg, as well as more space on the chassis for installing extra components or larger fuel tanks...
* UK - Lincolnshire Highways Division gets 53 new trucks
Lincolnshire,England,UK -Transport Engineer, by Brian Tinham -8 July 2010: -- A total of 49 Mitsubishi Canter 7C18, 7.5-tonne box vans and three-way tippers, plus four Mercedes-Benz Axor 1824 18-tonne three-way tippers are being supplied by TransLinc to Lincolnshire Council for its Highways Division... Some of the vehicles are being fitted with hydraulic cranes to assist with heavy lifting tasks, and all are equipped with Cybit trackers, chosen less from a security point of view and more with works management in mind...
* UK - Cummins shows 3,500bhp Mini at Goodwood
Chichester,West Sussex,UK -Transport Engineer, by Brian Tinham -5 Julio 2010: -- Visitors to the Goodwood Festival of Speed found probably the oddest exhibit of all on Cummins' stand... The world's largest independent maker of diesel engines showed exactly what engineers can do, if they put their minds to it by fitting its largest engine – the QSK78 weighs in at more than 11 tonnes – to a Mini... The QSK78, which is used to power mining industry dump trucks capable of carrying 360 tonnes, is a V18 monster with a capacity of 78 litres, equipped with 12 turbochargers and developing 3,500bhp and 14,000Nm of torque (compared to the original Mini's 80Nm)... * Russia - Truck makers rev up for sales rebound
Moscow,Russia -RT Business -2 July, 2010: -- Russia’s truck makers have endured a torrid two years, weathering a sales slump as the economic downturn hammered buyers. But the biggest local maker, Kamaz, says a rebound is in gear... Close ties to the heavily hit construction and transport industries saw Russian truck production come to a screeching halt with a 60% slump during 2009... The biggest single hit was for internationally respected Russian truck maker, Kamaz. Kamaz trucks transport everything from manure to missiles – they have also 9 wins in the prestigious Paris-Dakar rally. They are renowned for their durable reliability, and their ease of use. They are sold in more than 80 countries around the world, but it is here in Russia, where they have more than half the local market... Sales of Kamaz trucks fell to just a thousand vehicles per month at the depth of the crisis. However, the market is now showing its first signs of recovery, with the truck maker expecting 2500 machines to be sold in June... All the market players agree one thing though – a truck cash for clunkers program similar to the one offered for cars and currently being considered by the government, would do much to accelerate the recovery...
