* Kansas - YRC Worldwide Seeks More Financing

Overland Park,KS,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by William B. Cassidy -Jun 14, 2010: -- Trucking giant struggles with cash burn as shipping volumes increase... YRC Worldwide revised a credit agreement to borrow additional money, the company said Monday, as the trucking operator said it expects a pre-tax profit in the second quarter but that higher spending is siphoning away cash... The $5.3 billion carrier, which lost $274 million in the first quarter, said it also expects an operating profit at its regional less-than-truckload group and that overall shipping volume in June has been better than it was in May... But YRC said greater “net cash usage” is biting into its liquidity, pushing the company to negotiate with its lending group and consider the sale of “non-strategic assets or business lines”... YRC expects to boost its share value through a reverse stock split this summer...

* DC - Federal Reserve: Transportation Activity on the Rise

Washington,DC,USA -Truckinginfo -10 June 2010: -- Transportation and manufacturing activity has improved over the last few months, according to the Federal Reserve. Freight transport executives said, while increased volume exceeded expectations, profits are still below historical norms. They are also still concerned about the sustainability of the recovery and credit availability... Executives were unsure about whether the improvements reflected reduced capacity in the transportation industry or an overall increase in demand...

* Massachusetts - Ex-lobbyist regulator may add to dangerous trucks on Boston streets

Boston,MASS,USA -The Boston Herald, by Thomas Grillo -June 10, 2010: -- Hub residents yesterday blasted the Obama administration official working to allow dangerous fuel trucks to drive through downtown because she spent years lobbying for the trucking industry... Anne Ferro, administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, has ruled against Boston’s ban on hazardous materials trucks during the daytime. She has given the Menino administration until July 1 to justify the ban in the North End and Waterfront neighborhoods... As chief executive of the Maryland Motor Truck Association, Ferro’s mission then was to increase efficiency and reduce trucking costs. Her federal mandate now is to increase safety... But Alfano said Ferro seems to be hanging onto her old ways... “It’s just not safe,” Tinlin said... (Photo by John Wilcox - FIRED UP: Mario Alfano holds up a sign arguing that trucks carrying hazardous cargo, or HC, should be barred from North End and waterfront streets in the daytime)
