TRUCKING STATISTICS * NAFTA - Trade Soars Record 24.1 Percent

February total compares with one of slowest months in recession

Washington,DC,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by Thomas L. Gallagher -Apr 29, 2010: -- Surface trade with Canada and Mexico rose for the third consecutive month in February, surging a record 24.1 percent compared with the previous February, one of the slowest months of the recession... Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement totaled $59.5 billion in value, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics of the U.S. Department of Transportation... U.S.-Canada surface transportation trade totaled $36.3 billion in February, up 21.7 percent compared to February 2009. The value of imports carried by truck was 6.4 percent higher in February 2010 compared to February 2009, while the value of exports carried by truck was 23.5 percent higher during this period, said BTS in its report.... U.S.-Mexico surface transportation trade totaled $23.2 billion in February, up 28 percent compared to February 2009. The value of imports carried by truck was 27.6 percent higher in February 2010 than February 2009 while the value of exports carried by truck was 18.3 percent higher... * USA - Freight Index Jumps 12.9 Percent

Washington,DC,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online -May 3, 2010: -- Strong growth from last year comes with signs of stability in demand, pricing... The Cass Freight Index of U.S. shipping demand grew 12.9 percent in April, according to the measure released Monday, the strongest year-over-year expansion since the global economic downturn took hold... But Cass Information Systems index of freight shipments also grew a more modest 1.7 percent on a month-to-month basis, signaling the recovery in shipping demand is leveling off... The index, which had been showing strong acceleration on a month-to-month basis since December, was at its highest point since November 2008, at the start of the recession... Shipper spending on transportation, based on the Cass index of expenditures, also grew at a 21 percent rate compared to April a year ago, also the strongest year-over-year increase since the downturn... The expenditures index edged up 1.6 percent in April from March, a sign of stability in transportation rates in domestic shipping...
