* Germany - MAN chairman Piech pushes Scania trucks alliance

Munich,Germany -Reuters/Forexyard, by Irene Preisinger & Michael Shields & Erica Billingham -April 01, 2010: -- Automotive empire builder Ferdinand Piech renewed his push for a three-way trucks alliance by MAN, Scania and Volkswagen, calling for quick action after a years-long standoff... Piech, who is chairman of both MAN and VW, laid down the law at MAN's annual meeting on Thursday, slapping down MAN's chief executive who only moments before had played down the prospects for forging a trucks powerhouse... Piech said he could devote himself to the trucks alliance... He has also made no bones about his desire to create a trucks juggernaut with the scale and muscle to take on industry leaders Daimler and Volvo... Volkswagen owns nearly 71 percent of voting rights in Scania and has a voting stake of nearly 30 percent in MAN...


* Germany - MAN SE Plans Latin American Expansion From Brazil

Munich,Germany -Bloomberg, by Cornelius Rahn & Tom Lavell & Kenneth Wong -April 01, 2010: -- MAN SE, Europe’s third-biggest truckmaker, aims to expand to other Latin American markets from a new manufacturing base in Brazil, where the company will introduce a model under its own brand at the end of the year... The first orders have been received for a new truck that will complement the company’s Volkswagen-brand heavy vehicles... MAN bought the Brazilian truckmaking operations of Volkswagen AG, the company’s biggest shareholder, in March 2009. The Munich-based manufacturer has said group sales will be stable this year, helped by growth in Brazil... Munich-based MAN expects to conclude new contracts “shortly” on supplying power plant generators in Brazil, after winning a 300 million-euro ($404 million) order in the country in February for 120 engines, Pachta-Reyhofen said...
