* USA - Heavy Truck Orders Jump 28 Percent - March results could be sign of shrinking capacity, ACT says
Columbus,IND,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by William B. Cassidy -Apr 19, 2010: -- Heavy truck orders rose 28 percent year-over-year in March to 11,285 units, following stronger than anticipated sales in February, ACT Research reported today... Orders for medium-duty trucks jumped 20 percent from a year ago in March... The sales may reflect a shakeout in truck fleets as older vehicles are retired to reduce capacity and new trucks are ordered to handle increasing volumes... Heavy truck sales rose sharply in February, with net orders climbing 20 percent both from January 2010 and February 2009... Those figures don’t indicate a truck buying spree, however, as the increases come off a very low base, the research firm said. A year ago, truck sales were hurtling with the trucking industry toward the depths of the recession...

* Canada - Volvo VN78: EPA2010 from behind the wheel
Toronto,ONT,Canada -Truck News/Hooked UP, by James Menzies -20 April 2010: ... The Volvo VN780 with D13 Volvo engine and I-Shift transmission handled and performed, well, like you'd expect it to handle and perform – pre- or post-2010. The fact it was an EPA2010 model with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) would've gone unnoticed had I not seen the give-away blue DEF cap on the side and the new gauge on the dash that displayed DEF levels. Drivers aren't going to have a problem with how the new-generation engines perform... The truck I drove had a few new features from Volvo. For one, it had Volvo Enhanced Cruise (VEC) which provides audible alerts when following another vehicle too closely... Also new to Volvo on the truck I drove was an integrated fifth wheel from Fontaine that shaves 100 lbs from the weight. And a handy new pre-trip inspection assistant will check all the lights on a tractor or trailer and indicate when a lamp is not functioning... Of course, it doesn't replace the need for a thorough pre-trip, but it makes it a much easier one-person job. Volvo's I-Shift automated tranny has some new features as well...
