* Sweden - Volvo Trucks release a new version of FM
Stockholm,Sweden -HGV Ireland -March 15, 2010: -- The strong position of the Volvo FM within the regional distribution segment has been further strengthened with the release of a new version of this well-proven truck... The most obvious change is the new exterior design that features a new grille and headlights. New features, such as anti-slip windscreen steps and interior trim enhancements further refine the truck’s top-class comfort and safety... The new release complements previous Volvo FM innovations, including the recently-updated automated I-Shift gearbox and Volvo’s recently-introduced new engine range that offers more power from less fuel. According to Volvo, the 13-litre engine – in combination with the Volvo I-Shift – reduces fuel consumption by up to three per cent compared to the earlier version, while offering power output of up to 500 hp and peak torque of 2500 Nm...
* Europe - Vehicle production slumps as recession hits industry
Berlin,Germany -Earth Times -11 Mar 2010: -- Total vehicle production in Europe slumped year on year by 17.3 per cent in 2009, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) said Thursday as the automotive sector was engulfed by the global recession. Production of cars, trucks and buses dropped by 23 per cent compared to the pre-crisis level it reached in 2007, said the Brussels-based ACEA... The fall in production was most dramatic among truck makers where output plummeted by 64 per cent to an historic low... However, car sales fell by just 1.3 per cent with government incentive schemes aimed at encouraging auto owners to upgrade their vehicles helping to bolster demand...
* China - World's No.1 truckmaker Daimler to expand in
Shanghai,China -Gasgoo.com, by George Gao -March 11, 201: -- Daimler AG to expand in China and India to maintain its position as the world's No. 1 manufacturer of heavy trucks, Bloomberg reported today. This move comes after it narrowly held on to that rank last year as its global market share dropped to 11% from 15.2%... Daimler Trucks is seeking government approval to start a joint venture in China with Beiqi Foton Motor. The plant is due to start production in 2012, and Daimler is searching for a sales partner. It is also building a factory in India and raising capacity in Brazil... Last week, Daimler AG, which also makes Mercedes-Benz luxury cars in Beijing, signed a memorandum of understanding with BYD Co. to build electric cars together in China...
* India - Tata Motors sees price hike for trucks due to high raw material prices. Truck sales to rise 10-15 percent in 2010/11
Mumbai,India -Reuters, By Janaki Krishnan & Surojit Gupta & Sharon Lindores -12 March 2010: -- Tata Motors, India's largest vehicles maker plans to offset rising commodity prices through price hikes and cost cutting, a senior executive said... The firm's margins came under pressure in the third quarter as prices of raw materials such as steel, aluminium and copper rose during the latter part of the year... The company plans to save 10 billion rupees ($353.7 million) over three years by raising productivity and reducing costs through better sourcing... In addition, truck prices are expected to rise in April as the truckmakers have to comply with new emission norms, said Ravi Pisharody, head of Tata Motors' commercial vehicles business to Reuters in an interview, adding that any price increase would be done in phases to minimise discomfort to customers... * France - Volvo’s Renault Trucks May Ask for More Aid to Extend Layoffs
Paris,France -Bloomberg, by Laurence Frost -March 12, 2010: -- Volvo AB, the world’s second- largest truckmaker, may need more government support in France, where its Renault Trucks unit is lagging behind a global recovery and aid conditions rule out job cuts until late 2012... Renault Trucks wants to extend a state-subsidized partial shutdown for several months and may seek further help after the program reaches a 12-month legal limit in September, spokesman Bernard Lancelot said today in an interview... Volvo’s French unit is already in a third government-funded slowdown, with its 10,500 employees working a three-day week for 95 percent of their salary. * Ireland - Modec to exibit at the Energy Show
Dublin,Ireland -HGV Ireland -March 10, 2010: -- Modec Ireland, a member of the OHM Group of companies, is to exhibit the Modec electric commercial vehicle at The Energy Show 2010... The Energy Show takes place on the 14th and 15th April in the Main Hall of the RDS in Ballsbridge, Dublin... The Modec is a 5.5 tonne Gross Vehicle Weight battery electric commercial vehicle with zero emissions and zero noise. It has a 160 kilometre range, a top speed of 80 kph and a 2 tonne payload... In the UK Tesco, Center Parcs, Hildon Water and many other major companies have already introduced Modecs to their fleets.
