* UK - VOSA braces itself for enforcement staff strike

Bristol,UK -Road Transport, by Dominic Perry -5 March 2010: -- Dangerously overloaded trucks could escape detection this month as VOSA enforcement staff that are part of the PCS trade union strike over terms and conditions... Some 700 VOSA employees, including traffic examiners, administrative and test booking staff, workers at VOSA's Bristol HQ and a number of VOSA drivers and officers with powers to stop, will take part in a two-day strike on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 March... The strike is part of a wider dispute between the PCS union and the government over what it sees as a "fundamental attack" on employees' terms and conditions, which will reduce job security, it says...


* Finland - Stevedores to Join Trucker Strike. It will cost up to $220 million a day in lost sales, according to the employers' group

-- Finnish stevedores are set to walk off the job on March 4, joining striking truckers in a nationwide transport stoppage that threatens to bring industry to a halt and strangle the Nordic nation's foreign trade... The dockworkers, who staged on 24 hour strike on Feb. 2 and are refusing to work overtime, are protesting the breakdown of contract negotiations with port employers... The truckers’ strike, which began earlier in the week, has already impacted industrial output and halted the transport of export goods, including paper and pulp from factories to the ports... A government appointed mediator is attempting to revive negotiations between employers and unions in a bid to end the disputes before factories start to close down...
