SCR's TROUBLES * Belgium - SCR trucks failing to hit Euro-5 standards

Brussels,Belgium -Road Transport (UK), by Dominic Perry -21 March 2010: -- Operators of SCR-equipped Euro-5 trucks will be forced to modify their vehicles making their trucks less fuel efficient if the EU decides to back recommendations put forward by the Dutch government... The move comes on the back of a study in Holland, which revealed that NOx emissions from Euro-5 trucks in the urban environment were only marginally better than those of Euro-3 vehicles, despite theoretically being 60% lower... Flach points out that the majority of NOx is produced during a high-temperature duty cycle - unlikely to occur during urban operation. Equally, the on-board diagnostics (OBD) fitted to Euro-5 trucks since 2007 should prevent NOx emissions at the levels suggested by the study, he says... He stresses that regardless of this, the EU is unlikely to agree the stop-gap measure before the roll-out of Euro-6...
