* Japan - Isuzu to Venture With Toyota on Engine Production
Tokyo,Japan -Engine Folder -17 January, 2010: -- Japan’s Isuzu Motors Ltd. said Thursday that it is considering a set up in a joint venture to produce diesel engines with Toyota Motor Corp. as part of the tie-up which was announced by the two firms last year... The industry leader in the gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle market, Toyota, is seeking to improve its fuel-efficient and low-emission technologies by tying up with Isuzu, which is a major developer of diesel engines... An Isuzu spokesman said that putting up a joint production venture is one option which the two auto makers are looking at. However, they are also considering other options... The latest comments were aired after Isuzu said last December that building a new diesel engine plant with Toyota was one option. The Isuzu spokesman said that the two auto makers may be open for the details of their alliance by the end of August...
* Thailand - Diesel engine line will help Hino tap Afta benefits
Bangkok,Thailand -The Bangkok Post -18 January 2010: -- Hino will begin making the diesel engines for Hino trucks built locally in the middle of this year, making it the second company after its rival Isuzu to make truck engines in Thailand... Engine production in Thailand is being planned to prepare the company to export Hino trucks to Asean neighbours... At the moment, Hino trucks cannot be shipped to Asean as their local content is below the 40% level required to qualify for tariff reductions. Once the engines are made locally with parts that can be sourced locally or from other Asean locations at low or zero tariffs, the local content would exceed 40%... Hino currently produces trucks of two and 3.5 tons and up for the local market. It began exporting trucks to India last year to tap the free trade agreement between Thailand and India but export figures were not available...
* USA - Navistar Acquires EGR Valve Technology
Warrenville,ILL,USA -Transport Topics -19 Jan 2010: -- Navistar Inc. said Tuesday it has acquired some assets from Holley Performance Products, including intellectual property rights for valve technology used on exhaust gas recirculation systems... Navistar will use the valve technology in its MaxxForce commercial diesel engines, which use EGR technology to meet the Environmental Protection Agency's 2010 emissions standards... The valve allows increased air flow in the EGR system, Navistar said, which reduces combustion temperatures... Pure Power Technologies, a Navistar subsidiary, will manufacture the valve at its Blythewood, S.C., plant, Navistar said...
