TRUCKMAKERS' NEWS * USA - Oshkosh down, Navistar, BAE up on contract ruling
Chicago,ILL,USA -Reuters, by James B. Kelleher & John Crawley & Gunna Dickson -Dec 14, 2009: -- Shares of U.S. specialty truckmaker Oshkosh Corp tumbled as much as 18 percent on Monday after a U.S. watchdog sustained a protest of the company's contract win to build trucks for the U.S. Army... Shares of rivals Navistar International Corp and BAE Systems, meanwhile, rallied after the Government Accountability Office (GAO) said the challenge they mounted to Oshkosh's summer victory was valid in key areas of procurement practice... The GAO, the investigative arm of Congress, recommended that the Army re-evaluate the selection and terminate the contract to Oshkosh if the company is found "to not offer the best value". The Army has 60 days to respond to the GAO findings... Analysts value the deal at around $2 billion... Oshkosh was awarded the contract to build up to 23,000 vehicles and trailers in August. The protests were lodged the following month...
