TRUCKER'S STORY * USA - After 2.5 million miles, trucker's journey still rolling
Those old trucker log books are tough habits to break...
Riegelwood,NC,USA -Star News Online, by Amy Hotz -December 12, 2009: ... In 1959 Alton Edwards helped create the Acme-Delco Fire Department (which was consolidated to become Acme-Delco-Riegelwood Fire and Rescue). He was a member for 50 years and served as chief for 12 years. Here, he earned another nickname, “Super Chief,” for his relentless hard work and ability to accomplish goals... Edwards has a very calm, humble demeanor. He’s very tall, but thin. And he’s quick with a smile and a joke, even for strangers... He speaks slow and deliberately as if concerned you might not understand the point he’s trying to make... He quickly moved up to a managerial position in charge of 78 men. At the fire department, he managed 31 men... Although Edwards is technically retired from several jobs – Riegelwood Paper Company, Kenan Trucking and Acme-Delco Fire Department – he certainly hasn’t slowed down... He still works as a fire and rescue consultant, serves on the 911 Oversight Committee appointed by the Columbus County Commissioners, volunteers for various organizations and takes care of about three yards in the neighborhood... (Photo, by KEN BLEVINS - Alton Edwards has worked the equivalent of 105 years -he's worked two and three jobs at a time- and has driven more than 2.5 million miles. He has a lot to say about living living life)
