REGULATIONS * UK - Whole Vehicle Type Approval
London,UK -HGV UK -December 4, 2009: -- Although many in the building and trailer manufacturing industry said that Whole Vehicle Type Approval or WVTA would never happen, it became a reality in April 2009 with the introduction of the first stage of these landmark regulations which will be phased in completely by October 2014... Expanding on some aspects of the new regulations, Malcolm Tagg, Director General of the VBRA, the UK’s leading Trade Association for Vehicle Body Building, CV, Car Body and SMART repair, went on to say, “The most important point made in the new regs. is simple and it’s this, “no approval means no registration” and it is thus very important for purchasers and builders to be aware of the need, from their relevant ‘in scope’ dates to manufacture only compliant vehicles... For IVA regarding actual inspection, given that at the moment there are only five VOSA stations across the UK offering this service with a total of 17 scheduled to exist at some future time it is clear that it will be inconvenient to say the least for most builders to acquire individual vehicle approval unless geographic considerations are in their favour. VOSA’s intention is clearly to encourage designated independent operators to set up the necessary inspection facilities rather than fund them themselves...
