* USA - Kenworth Introduces Versatile T440 Model
Kirkland,WASH,USA -Business Wire -Oct 19, 2009: -- Kenworth Truck Company today announced the introduction of the Kenworth T440 model in tractor and truck configurations for regional haul, city pickup and delivery, municipal and vocational applications... Built on the same platform as the T470 introduced in June, the Kenworth T440 has a gross vehicle weight (GVW) ranging from a heavy Class 7 vehicle at 33,000 lbs. up to a light Class 8 truck at 68,000 lbs. The 2010 PACCAR PX-8 engine, rated from 260 hp to 350 hp and 660 lb-ft to 1,000 lb-ft of torque, is standard equipment... The T440`s modern styling features an aerodynamic sloped hood, which gives the driver enhanced forward visibility. A 3-piece aerodynamic bumper, Kenworth signature grille, and best-in-class forward lighting with Halogen projector headlamps are standard equipment. * USA - Daimler truck division to report loss
Portland,OR,USA -The Portland Business Journal -October 19, 2009: -- Daimler AG’s truck division is expected to report a $190 million third-quarter loss, according to preliminary figures released Monday by the German auto maker... The loss marks a stark difference from a year earlier, when the truck division — which includes the company’s Portland-based Daimler Trucks North America — reported $763 million in earnings before interest and taxes... But it’s a marked improvement from the second quarter, when Daimler Trucks lost $713 million... The company warned that the economics of U.S. truck-making remain difficult. It is attempting to open early negotiations with its labor unions on a new three-year contract in an effort to reduce costs and maintain competitiveness... * Germany - Daimler says truck orders better since mid-year

Daimler reported a growing cash cushion and its quarterly earnings beat forecasts on Monday in a sign that the company was weathering the worst industry downturn in decades better than expected... In Trucks, Daimler recorded an EBIT loss of 127 million euros. Heavy-duty truck markets have been savaged on both sides of the Atlantic as the global financial crisis has left buyers starved of money to fund the purchase of new vehicles, while deep recession has further dampened demand... The head of Daimler's truck division, the world's largest, said the company had seen light at the end of the tunnel... (CEO) Dieter Zetsche's comments add to signs that the worst may be over for the world's truck market. In the first half of this year, new orders for Daimler trucks fell by 59 percent... Volvo, the world's No. 2 truck maker, said last week that the European truck market had reached a floor around the start of the third quarter... Daimler said earlier this month it was seeing evidence that the U.S. truck market has bottomed out, though it remained cautious about the pace of any recovery...
* South Korea - Tata Daewoo told to recall 3,276 trucks in
Seoul,S Korea -The Press Trust Of India -October 19, 2009: -- The South Korean government has ordered Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle, Tata Motors’ joint venture here, to recall 3,276 trucks due to safety reasons in the steering system in its three models, officials said today... The measures cover 19 tonne, 19.5 tonne and 25 tonne trucks made from August 16, 2004, to the end of 2007, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said. A total of 3,276 vehicles were made during that period, Yonhap news agency reported... Government inspectors said the auxiliary system functions for less than three minutes, failing to meet minimum safety requirements set for such large commercial trucks...
