Detroit,MICH,USA -The Associated Press/The South Florida.com, by STEPHEN MANNING, TOM KRISHER -October 13, 2009: -- Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday it will add 4.5 million older-model vehicles to the long list of those recalled because a defective cruise control switch could cause a fire... The latest voluntary action pushes Ford's total recall due to faulty switches to 14.3 million registered vehicles over 10 years, capping the company's largest cumulative recall in history involving a single problem... The recall covers 1.1 million Ford Windstar minivans that had a small risk of fire due to internal leaking from the switches... Ford advised owners of all vehicles covered by the recall to park them outside until they are mailed instructions by the end of the month on how to get repairs... (Photo from cdn.clasipar)


* Truck production rate hits bottom

Columbus,IND,USA -Today's Trucking (CAN) -13 Oct 2009: -- Declines in year-to-year truck orders will continue into the first quarter of 2010, but the worst truck-building rates are over and will start growing slowly this third quarter... According to ACT Research's recent North American Commercial Vehicle Outlook, heavy-duty and medium-duty truck production rates have reached a bottom... But it's a deep hole to climb out of. Heavy-duty production was at 25,000 for the second quarter, down 57 percent from the year-ago period. Medium-duty production was down 53 percent to 22,000 in the second quarter, and will rise at a slower rate than heavy-duty, due to continued softness in the construction industry... * Carrier reefer units available with 2010 engines


Farmington,CT,USA -Fleet Owner -Oct 13, 2009: -- Carrier Transicold is now offering most of its trailer reefer units with 2010 model year engines, giving owners an additional year of life on the units under California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations, the company has announced... According to CARB, most transport refrigeration units (TRU) operating inside California have a seven-year engine clock that starts on either the year of manufacture of the TRU or the emissions model year of the TRU engine... Because of this, Carrier said, units purchased with 2009 model year engines must be replaced or upgraded no later than Dec. 31, 2016. The 2010 model year units, though, if a customer takes delivery in 2009, will be valid until Dec. 31, 2017...
