* USA - Vision's Tyrano Truck
Sacramento,CAL,USA -Alternative Energy Newswire -October 21, 2009: -- The Tyrano hydrogen fuel cell plug-in hybrid electric short haul truck produces 535 horsepower and has a range of 200 miles... It is also 35-percent more efficient than the diesel trucks because it uses electric motors that are not taxed in the stop and go driving inherent around the Southern California ports... According to Vision Industries CEO, Martin Schuermann, the cost for one custom built Tyrano truck right now is $250,000. The cost for a comparable diesel short haul truck is around $110,000 and the cost for a liquid natural gas (LNG) truck is between $170,000 and $200,000. With an order of just 1,000 to 2,000 Tyrano trucks, the price tag comes down to somewhere between that of a diesel truck and a LNG truck, because of economies of scale... The Hydrogen Cluster Model has already started in the Los Angeles area putting a concentration of hydrogen cars around where most of the H2 fueling stations reside and are being built. Putting hydrogen trucks in the Los Angeles area ports only furthers this Hydrogen Cluster Model as serves as an example for other large cities in the nation and around the world...
* USA - Navistar to issue $1.5 billion debt offering
Warrenville,ILL,USA -AP -21 Oct 2009: -- Truck maker Navistar International Corp. on Tuesday said it plans to issue $1.5 billion in new debt that it will use to repay an outstanding loan... The company will issue $1 billion of senior notes due 2021 and $500 million of senior subordinated convertible notes due 2014... The company is also offering the underwriters an overallotment option to purchase an additional $75 million in convertible notes... Credit Suisse and JPMorgan are leading the debt offerings... * USA - Caterpillar Reports 53% Drop in 3Q Profit
Peoria,ILL,USA -Transport Topics -20 Oct 2009: -- Heavy equipment and diesel engine maker Caterpillar Inc. said Tuesday its third-quarter profit fell 53%... The company reported a net income of $404 million, or 64 cents a share, in the third quarter, compared with income of $868 million, or $1.39, a year ago... Sales fell 44% to $7.3 billion, the company said in a statement... Since the economy worsened last year, Caterpillar has been hit hard as demand for mining trucks and construction equipment has fallen, the Associated Press reported... Caterpillar has responded to the downturn by cutting production and laying off thousands of employees... The company, whose brands include Case and New Holland, offered a more subdued sales outlook for its construction business than rival Caterpillar Inc. (CAT), which said Tuesday that 2010 sales could be up by as much as 25%... * Japan - TOMY and Panasonic Collaborate in Road Testing CNG-Powered Long-Haul, Heavy-Duty Truck
Osaka,Japan -JCN Newswire -Oct 22, 2009: -- Panasonic Corporation and TOMY Company, Ltd. today announced the results of six-month on-road trials of a long-haul, heavy-duty truck which was fueled with compressed natural gas (CNG). In the trials, the first in Japan, the two companies partnered to complete 48 round trips between the Osaka and Tokyo areas from April through September this year using the prototype truck that was developed as part of the Next-Generation Low-Emission Vehicle Development Project organized by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The tests yielded positive results: a 10 percent reduction in CO2 emissions and a 90 percent reduction in NOx emissions, compared to performance of conventional diesel trucks. Virtually no suspended particulates were emitted...
