* Germany - STATISTICS: 60,000 fewer trucks on German roads

Berlin,Germmany -HGV UK -October 17, 2009: -- The German road haulage industry has shipped a heavy blow as a result of the recession, with 60,000 trucks taken off the countries roads since the beginning of the year... The federal traffic office KBA, has reported that since January 1st 2009 some 60,000 HGV’s subject to the Maut toll have been de-registered. This figure represents 17 per cent of the HGV fleet of over 12 tonnes... * UK - Amey chooses Mercedes-Benz

-- Highway contractor Amey handed a major order for new trucks to Mercedes-Benz dealer Mudie-Bond, after winning a contract to maintain and improve the motorway and trunk road network throughout the West Midlands... The £300-million, five-year contract covers large stretches of motorways as well as major thoroughfares and performing routine maintenance, traffic management and incident response duties, Amey is also responsible for updating and improving technology systems and equipment across the region... To service this contract, Amey has invested in a new fleet of 20 Mercedes 18-tonners – comprising 11 low-entry Econics and nine Axor – all of which were supplied by Mudie-Bond, Oxford...
