* USA - Trucking Sluggish in Some Regions, Fed ‘Beige Book’ Says

Richmond,VA,USA -Transport Topics -21 Oct 2009: -- Despite some signs of economic recovery, transportation services activity in most regions declined in the six weeks through mid-October, the Federal Reserve said Wednesday... Two regional exceptions were Chicago, where trucking shipments reportedly increased, and Cleveland, where contacts cited an uptick in freight transport volume in recent weeks... The Atlanta, San Francisco, and Dallas districts reported a decline in trucking activity, while Kansas City’s was flat, the report said... Retail and manufacturing conditions were mixed in Boston, but some signs of improvement were reported. New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and San Francisco cited small pickups in manufacturing activity... Overall, reports of economic activity gains generally outnumbered declines, but virtually all references to improvement were qualified as either small or scattered... Revenue fell to $399 million from $495.8 million a year ago, a per-day decline of 19.5%... * Washington - Haney Truck Line Buys Two Northwestern Trucking Companies. Move Creates One of Largest West Coast TL Carriers

Seattle,WASH,USA -Transport Topics -20 Oct 2009: -- Seattle-based truckload carrier Haney Truck Line said Tuesday it has purchased two Northwestern truckload companies, Washington-based Puget Sound Truck Lines and Oregon-based Nickel Plate Express... The combined entities will operate under the Haney brand and create one of the largest West Coast truckload transportation fleets, Haney said in a statement... Haney also will assume leased property in Eugene and Portland, Ore., Commerce and Woodland, Calif., and in Everett, Bellingham and Tacoma, Wash., adding to the five terminals and various other parking yards Haney it maintains throughout the Northwest... * Wiscosin - Marten Reports Lower Third-Quarter Income

Mondovi,WI,USA -Transport Topics -20 Oct 2009: -- Refrigerated truckload carrier Marten Transport’s third-quarter net income fell 43% to $3.5 million, or 16 cents a share, from $6.1 million, or 28 cents, a year ago... Operating revenue from trucking operations fell 26.8%, to $100.3 million, while revenue from logistics operations fell 10.6%, to $29.3 million, the company said late Tuesday... Marten said that the drop in revenue was primarily due to decreases in fuel surcharge revenues. * Minnesota - C.H. Robinson’s 3Q Profit Improves

Eden Prairie,MN,USA -Transport Topics -21 Oct 2009: -- Transportation and third-party logistics firm C.H. Robinson Worldwide reported a third-quarter profit of $95.5 million, or 57 cents a share, up slightly from $93.6 million, or 54 cents a share, a year ago... Revenue fell 15.6% to $1.95 billion due primarily to lower volumes and fuel prices, the company said late Tuesday. Transportation gross profit rose 2.9% to $306.2 million... Truck revenue, including truckload and less-than-truckload services, rose 2.1% to $268.1 million, while truckload rates fell 7% excluding the estimated effects of fuel... * Arizona - Knight’s 3Q Income Declines

Phoenix,AZ,USA -Transport Topics -21 Oct 2009: -- Truckload carrier Knight Transportation’s third-quarter profit fell to $13.1 million, or 16 cents a share, compared with $16 million, or 19 cents, a year ago... Revenue dropped to $173.1 million, from $209.7 million a year ago, the company said late Wednesday. Revenue excluding fuel surcharges fell to $150.2 million...


* Tennessee - Forward Air’s 3Q Income Declines

Greeneville,TN,USA -Transport Topics -21 Oct 2009: -- Forward Air Corp. said late Wednesday its third-quarter profit fell to $3.8 million, or 13 cents per share, from $12.1 million, or 42 cents, a year ago... Revenue fell 15.1% to $103.1 million, the company said in a statement...


* Illinois - Hub Group’s Third-Quarter Income Declines

Montreal,Quebec,CAN -Transport Topics -21 Oct 2009: -- Canadian National Railway Co. said its third-quarter net income dropped to C$461 million or 97 cents per share, from C$552 million or C$1.16 per share a year earlier... Revenue fell 18.3% to C$1.85 billion, the railroad said in a statement late Tuesday...
