* USA - Class 8 sales rebound forecast tepid
New York,NY,USA -Today's Trucking (CAN) -3 Sept 2009: -- Class 8 retail sales for the balance of 2009 and 2010 are expected to be worse than previously forecast, according to Merrill Lynch Machinery Research... Based on weaker year-to-date industry statistics, Merrill Lynch lowered its estimate for 2009 sales of heavy-duty trucks to 120,000 from 150,000 units in a previous forecast. The research division also lowered its forecast for 2010 sales to 130,000 units, compared to a previous estimate of 155,000... * UK - Van and truck sales continue slide
London,UK -SMMT -September 4, 2009: -- Sales of vans and trucks continued to slide last month, according to figures re;leased today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) - New van and truck registrations in the United Kingdom – 2009:
* Registrations: 9,386 in August, 242,118 for the rolling year, down 37.5%.
* Trucks: 1,855 in August, 41,790 for the rolling year, down 28.6%.
* Vans: 7,531 for the month, 200,328 for the rolling year, down 28.6%.
“August van and truck registrations fell again,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive. “The truck and van markers face exceptionally tough trading conditions and uncertain demand. Businesses’ own need for new vehicles are well down too. We expect van and truck registrations will stabilise at around 45% down on last year”...
* UK - The time is right says DAF
Wrexham,Clwyd,UK -HGV UK -September 3, 2009: -- British truck operators have only a few weeks left to take advantage of Government assistance to buy a new truck, assistance, which could be worth ₤3,000 or more over the life of a heavy truck... The support comes by way of a Reduced Pollution Certificate (RPC) for Euro 5 trucks, which pays up to ₤500 per year for the life of the truck. But the RPC is only available for trucks registered by 30 September 2009... Once Euro 5 becomes mandatory from October 1st, the RPC scheme comes to an end, so anyone considering a new vehicle in the near future would be well advised to move quickly to capitalise on this one-off opportunity, says DAF Trucks Marketing Director Tony Pain...
* India - Truck sales rise 13% in August
Kolkata,India -The Hindu Business -Sept. 3, 2009: -- Having posted an 8 per cent growth in July after almost a year, truck sales (including multi-axletrailers) increased by 13 per cent to 17,549 units in August compared to the same period last year, according to the Indian Foundation of Transport Research and Training (IFTRT)... Truck sales were down 38.22 per cent, 55.02 per cent and 62.50 per cent during April-June 2009, January-March 2009 and October-December 2008 quarters... According to IFTRT, for the first time since the crash in October, the heavy multi-axle vehicles segment (25.2-31 tonnes), the industry growth-engine in terms of both value and volume, posted a marginal growth in sales at 0.53 per cent. Sales of medium commercial vehicles (15-16.2 tonne) continue to be lower than last year... The performance would have been better but for a sharp decline in sales of tipper trucks — used by the construction industry — in both MCV and HCV category. Compared to August 2008, sales of tipper trucks were down by 17 per cent in the HCV segment and 47 per cent in the MCV segment respectively..
