Warrenville,ILL,USA -Dow Jones/CNN Money -September 9, 2009: -- Navistar International Corp. swung to a fiscal third-quarter loss as the truck and engine maker posted lower revenue and margins while reporting its trucking segment swung to an operating loss... Heavy-duty vehicles such as buses and big trucks have seen a sales slump, but has picked up some of that slack from its military business... For the quarter ended July 31, Navistar reported a loss of $12 million, or 16 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier profit of $331 million, or $4.47 a share... Commercial truck and engine maker Navistar International Corp. expects no better than a modest improvement in commercial truck sales next year, as the shipping industry stages a halting recovery... Navistar on Thursday predicted North American commercial truck sales will increase by about 11% next year, discounting the likelihood of a robust upturn in consumer and manufacturing activity that would require a significant expansion of truck fleets...


* Navistar, Caterpillar Announce Global Truck Joint Venture


Warrenville,ILL,USA -Bloomberg/Transport Topics -10 Sept 2009: -- Navistar International Corp. and Caterpillar Inc. said Thursday they created a new joint-venture new company to be called NC2 Global LLC that will serve the global commercial truck market... The two first announced plans to form a joint venture in June 2008 and have put leadership in place for the new entity, which will be headquartered in the Chicago area... Caterpillar said last year it will pull out of the North American Class 8 truck engine market by 2010, except for partnerships with Navistar...


* J.P. Morgan downgrades Navistar to neutral

New York,NY,USA -MarketWatch, by Michelle Donley -Sep 10, 2009: -- Analysts at J.P. Morgan lowered their rating on Navistar International Corp. on Thursday to neutral from overweight and also cut their price target on the stock to $47 from $56. The Warrenville, Ill.-based truck maker faces "mounting risks going into 2010," including the loss of significant market share and lower military revenue, the analysts wrote in a note to clients. Shares of Navistar ended Wednesday at $45.68...


* U.S. Military Orders More ZAP Electric Trucks

Washington,DC,USA -Automobile, by Andrew Peterson -9 Sept 2009: -- After ordering several trucks in June, the United States military has placed a second order for more Zap XL electric trucks for use at an overseas base... This time around, the government ordered 11 trucks, along with five 220-volt fast-charging stations in lieu of the normal on-board 110-volt smart chargers. Using the high-voltage chargers, the Zap truck can reportedly be almost fully recharged within an hour... The company also is experiencing an increase in interest from fleet buyers, including the FAA, which recently ordered seven Zap trucks. * Hybrid trucks, the focus of bill that passed House

-- "The House on Wednesday passed a bill to encourage research and production of hybrid-powered commercial vehicles," according to Congressional Quarterly. Yep, we're talking trucks here -- panel vans, semis, you name it... The bill, which last year passed the House but not the Senate, "would create two phases of the research program for grant recipients, who would be eligible to receive $3 million annually for three years to complete both phases. ... To be eligible, recipients would have to produce trucks with a gross weight between 14,000 and 33,000 pounds"...


* Ford diesel details emerge

* EMC Previews Plug-In Pickup Based On

Electric Motors Corporation's new teaser photo of the Flash, the first of two plug-in serial hybrid trucks that it plans to start building next year, shows that it has unconventional styling to match its unconventional powertrain... EMC hopes to build the plug-ins in Indiana with manufacturing partner and RV maker Gulf Stream Coach... The Flash will use an electric motor to drive the wheels, while a small 1.2-liter gas engine is used as an on-board generator to recharge the batteries when power levels drop below a certain point...

The Flash is expected to have the same work capabilities of the 4.2-liter six-cylinder Ford F-150 model that was discontinued last year. That truck could tow up to 5,700 pounds and carry up to 1,940 pounds... EMC hopes to keep the Flash’s starting cost under $50,000. Buyers may be able to qualify for a $7,500 federal tax credit... A second, commercial truck will follow the Flash's full debut in November, called the Thunderbolt, Cashen said. The Thunderbolt will be aimed at the construction, emergency vehicle and motion picture industries. It is expected to have greater battery capacity than the Flash, and should be able to function as a power generating solution at job sites. It’s also expected to operate as a mobile communications platform, with high-speed wireless Internet access, acting as a Wi-Fi hotspot...


* Freightliner adds 2010 technology to test program

Portland, OR,USA -eTrucker, by Lucinda Coulter -9 Sept 2009: -- Freightliner will continue its Slice of Life program with plans to give the three participating truckers new Cascadia trucks equipped with Detroit Diesel's BlueTec selective catalytic reduction emissions technology in DD15s, the truck maker announced recently. In the program's second year, the truckers will test drive and respond to using BlueTec technology, which Detroit Diesel chose in 2005 to meet 2010 U.S. EPA emissions standards... * Oshkosh not sure where Pentagon protest headed

Chicago,ILL,USA -Reuters: Reporting by James B. Kelleher, editing by Dave Zimmerman -Sep 10, 2009: -- Executives from U.S. specialty truck maker Oshkosh Corp said on Thursday the company's 2010 outlook had been improved by the string of recent Pentagon contract awards... But they acknowledged they were not sure how a protest by two losing bidders on the defense contracts, Britain's BAE Systems PLC and Navistar International Corp, would ultimately play out... Speaking at the Longbow Industrial Conference in New York, company executives also warned they expected difficult market conditions would continue in most of the company's non-defense markets next year...
