* Navistar gets $9.8M Army deal for trucks

Washington,DC,USA -Associated Press/Business Insider -Sep. 15, 2009: -- Vehicle maker Navistar International Corp. recently received a $9.8 million contract from the Army for various trucks and spare parts, the Pentagon said late Monday... Work will be performed in West Point, Miss., and Beloit, Wis., with an estimated completion date of April 30, 2011... Shares of the Warrenville, Ill.-based company added 3 cents to $43.55 in morning trading Tuesday...


* Commercial Vehicle Market Seen Slowly Moving Up from 2Q Trough

Columbus,IN,USA -Trailer Body Builders -Sep 14, 2009: -- The production of new heavy- and medium-duty commercial vehicles reached a trough in the second quarter of 2009, with the third quarter projected to be the start of a slow but steady recovery, according to ACT Research Co. (ACT)... In the latest release of the North American Commercial Vehicle Outlook, ACT indicates Class 8 production reached a low-point in the second quarter, down 57 percent from the prior year. Quarterly production rates will begin a slow climb in the third quarter, although year-over-year declines will continue until the first quarter of 2010. Medium-duty truck (Classes 5–7) production, down 53 percent in the second quarter, will also begin a rebound, but at a slower rate, largely due to the continued softness in the construction industry... * Daimler Trucks to put 600 'Green' Freightliners on the road States. It's all about

USA -BigLorryBlog (UK) -September 15, 2009: -- Daimler Trucks North America is to participate in the US Department of Energy's program to promote alternative drivetrain system technologies by putting more than 600 Freightliner trucks equipped with either hybrid or natural gas drivelines on the road with leading American fleet operators... Last week, the US Department of Energy (DOE) announced that it would be supporting the Daimler trucks programm to the tune of $32.9 million (approx. €23 million) worth of grant in funding "...to be applied toward the purchase and support of 638 hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles by several leading national fleet operators"... The latest 'green' truck funding program is all part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) that went into effect in February... The DOE is providing almost $100 million through the Clean Cities program, approximately $84 million of which is earmarked for vehicle purchases, with around $14 million targeted toward alternative energy infrastructure expansion...


* Alcoa rolls out wide-base aluminum wheel

Cleveland,OH,USA -Fleet Owner -Sep 14, 2009: -- A new 14-in. wide-base wheel from Alcoa Wheel and Transportation Products cuts eight lbs. from competitive aluminum wheel options, according to the company. The LvL One model weighs 62 lbs. and can result in as much as 7% fuel savings for a long-haul truck, Alcoa said... The new wheel is also six times as bright as competitive wheels in its class with a 50-brightness rating using standardized test methods for high-gloss surfaces... * Washington firm signs £1m deal to supply electric trucks to Hong Kong

Glendale,AZ,USA -The Sunderland Echo, by Kevin Clark -16 September 2009: -- The Echo understands that Washington-based Smith Electric Vehicles – part of the Tanfield Group – has signed a £1million-plus deal which will give it a foothold in the lucrative Far East market... The company has signed deal with a Hong Kong distributor which will see 15 of its electric trucks used in the former colony and southern China... A company spokesman refused to comment on the report, but Chris Pywell, head of strategic change with regional development agency One NorthEast, said: "I would like to congratulate Tanfield Group on securing this fantastic deal to distribute electric vehicles in China and Hong Kong..."
