President Visits Navistar Plant to Tout Technologies
Warrenville,ILL,USA -Transport Topics -5 Aug 2009: -- The Obama administration said Wednesday that 48 projects will share $2.4 billion in federal grants to encourage development and use of hybrid and electric vehicles... Grants went to companies in more than 20 states, including projects in Michigan and Oregon. General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Group LLC will get parts of more than $400 million in grants to Michigan-based automakers, Bloomberg reported... President Obama spoke at a Navistar International Corp. plant in Indiana on Wednesday, outlining a $39 million plan for the company to build electric delivery vehicles, the company said... In a statement following the president’s visit to its Wakarusa, Ind., plant, the truck and engine maker said it “anticipates hiring additional workers immediately as it ramps up production of the all-electric delivery vehicle.”...
* Green Dollars Headed to Green Trucks
Kansas City,MO,USA -KCUR, by Maria Carter -5 July 2009: -- The White House announced more than $2.4 billion in grants for batteries and electric vehicles today. As KCUR's Maria Carter reports, some of that money is headed to Kansas City... US Commerce Secretary, Gary Locke, was on hand at the Kansas City Power and Light fleet garage to announce the grants. Smith Electric Vehicles will receive 10 million dollars as it builds a plant near the airport to make commercial vehicles. Smith is planning on as many as 100 trucks. KCP&L and other companies have already lined up to buy the plug in, electric trucks. Locally, Ford will get 30 million dollars to build plug in hybrid electric vehicles, including the Escape Hybrid made in Claycomo. And the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla is in line for 5 million to educate engineers in hybrid technology...
