CLEAN TRUCKS PROGRAMS * USA - NY-NJ Port Funds Truck Replacement

Program meets with support from shippers, carriers

NY,NJ, USA -The Journal of Commerce, by Joseph Bonney -Jul 24, 2009: -- The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey authorized $28 million to help truckers finance the replacement of up to 636 of the oldest, most polluting trucks serving the port... New York-New Jersey officials hope their plan will help the port avoid the kind of controversy that has accompanied clean-air initiatives in Los Angeles and Long Beach, where litigation resulted from the ports’ requirements that truckers obtain operating concessions... Peter Keller, chief operating officer of NYK Line (Americas), commended New York-New Jersey officials for working with the private sector to reduce pollution from trucks. Keller is a leader in the Coalition for Responsible Transportation, which has led a private-sector initiative that has led to the replacement of 4,000 older trucks at Southern California ports... * Oakland, Agencies Provide $22 Million for Clean Trucks - Public, private program to replace, retrofit trucks to reduce pollution

Oakland,CAL,USA -The Journal of Commerce, by Bill Mongelluzzo -July 29, 2009: ... The Port of Oakland is partnering with government agencies to provide $22 million in subsidies to motor carriers for the retrofitting or replacement of old, polluting trucks... Grants of up to $50,000 per vehicle are available to replace pre-1994 trucks. The port estimates some 200 trucks will have to be replaced because they are too old for retrofit devices that trap particulate matter emissions... Grants of about $15,000 per vehicle are available to retrofit 1994 model year and newer trucks. The traps will reduce PM emissions by 85 percent on an estimated 800 vehicles...
