A study finds that distracting tasks of increased complexity, such as dialing a phone, made crashes and near-crashes more probable, and the frequency with which motorists performed distracting activities had a close correlation with their involvement in attention-related crashes and near-crashes... Technology can serve to mediate driver attention to improve driving safety, for instance by alerting motorists away from distractions...
