Porcari is in his second stint overseeing highway, transit, aviation and maritime transportation in Maryland, as well as motor vehicle registration, the White House said on its Web site... Porcari also serves in his current post as chairman of the agency that operates Maryland’s bridges and tunnels... Porcari helped to begin construction of Maryland’s InterCounty Connector, as well as the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, which carries Interstate 95 over the Potomac River to Virginia, the White House said...

Washington,DC,USA -Transport Topics -13 April 2009: -- President Obama Monday said the federal government’s stimulus plan was on track to help shore up the nation’s infrastructure, Bloomberg reported... At the Department of Transportation, the president marked the plan’s 2,000th transportation project to receive funding under the $787 billion measure designed to help revive the U.S. economy... Obama, who was joined by Vice President, Joe Biden, and DOT Secretary, Ray LaHood, said competition for transport projects was so “fierce” that many were coming in under budget... By the end of next year, about 150,000 construction-related jobs, most in the private sector, will be saved, he said. The stimulus measure provides $48.1 billion for projects such as highways, bridges and mass transit...
