EGR vs SCR * EUROPE
* Germany - MAN's Euro-5 line-up. It's mainly EGR with a bit of SCR too
Munich,Germany -BigLorryBlog (UK) -April 8, 2009: -- ... However, the argument over EGR vs SCR is frankly starting to lose any significance--especially as it's generally accepted that for Euro-6 (expected around 2012 and 2013) you'll need both technologies... Although as one MAN insider told BLB last week when the conversation turned to Euro-6: "It's not about how much EGR you'll need with SCR---it's about how much SCR you'll need with EGR!" Nice footwork guys...Of course the real issue with EGR has been cooling---and at higher horsepower ratings its struggled to keep pace as emission levels have got tighter. Although it's interesting to note that Scania has managed to do it with its Euro-5 480hp 13-litre, even if we haven't seen EGR on the Swede's big vee engine. I wonder if we'll ever see that doing without AdBlue?...
