Toronto,ONT,CAN -Today's Trucking -8 April 2009: -- UPS Freight says it is expanding service from Canada and the U.S. to Mexico and will include customs brokerage capabilities and a single invoicing between all three NAFTA nations... Also, the LTL division's next-day service for freight moving to and from Toronto will expand to include Michigan, northern Ohio and northern Indiana... UPS Freight operates more than 200 service centers in the U.S. and Canada and about 40 in Mexico...
* USA - LTLs Ward, Saia Reduce Pay as Freight Volumes Decline
USA -Transport Topics, by Frederick Kiel -8 April 2009: -- Two regional less-than-truckload carriers announced across-the-board pay cuts because of deteriorating freight volumes and prices, Saia Inc. by 5% for salaried employees and drivers, and Ward Trucking Corp. by 8.9%. Both companies said executives’ pay was cut even more... Independent freight analyst Edward Wolfe said in his April 2 newsletter that the Saia news did not lead him to change his forecast of 7 cents per share for the company’s first-quarter profit, but “we continue to see great near-term risk to the LTL stocks, which will likely report extremely weak earnings or losses in [the first quarter] and throughout 2009.”...
