* Japan - Isuzu to Assemble Trucks in Mexico to Cut Costs, Nikkei Says
Tokyo,Japan -Bloomberg (USA), by Masumi Suga -Feb. 15, 2009: -- Isuzu Motors Ltd., Japan’s largest maker of light-duty trucks, is building an assembly plant in Cuautitlan, Mexico, to cut costs, the Nikkei newspaper reported... The carmaker sells 3,000 to 4,000 trucks a year in Mexico and aims to assemble 600 4-ton vehicles at the plant in the first year, starting within a few months... The investment in the facility will total several hundred million yen (100 million yen = $1.1 million), the paper said... Isuzu also plans to ship pickup trucks from Thailand to Chile, where partner General Motors Corp. last year shut down a local plant that had produced trucks for the Japanese automaker, Nikkei reported...
