RETROFITING TRUCKS * USA - Trucks Too Dirty For California May Be OK For PNW

Long Beach,CA,USA -The Cunningham Report -15 Feb 2009: -- A non-profit organization in the Pacific Northwest is putting finishing touches on a deal to buy 500 older model trucks that are destined for scrap yards in California and retrofit them for use in the drayage .. Cascade Sierra Solutions - which has offices in Sacramento, Portland and Coburg, Ore. - dubs the project "A Bridge to a Better Future"... According to Cascade Sierra officials, the program "takes good, newer, used trucks which do not meet California's strict (air quality) requirements, upgrades them with exhaust controls, reconditions them to improve fuel economy, and offers them at a very reasonable price to replace the oldest and most polluting trucks" on Washington and Oregon roads...
