London,UK -Procurement-blog, by David Rae -16 Feb 2009: -- A story in the China Daily provides more evidence of the fallout from the global downturn and the impact this is having on China's companies. The article talks about the problems faced by the Shanghai Pudong Trucking Corporation which during December 2008 had a third of its 1,500-strong fleet lying idle... It's not the only indicator. Chinese exports were down in January 2009 by a huge 17.5% compared to the same period in 2008 (read and comment on that particular article... And, as the latest issue of Procurement Leaders magazine reports, the planned opening of the 10,000km China to Germany direct cargo-train rail link has been delayed due to a lack of business. The service which cuts 10 days off the time taken by sea, has been involved in trials since autumn last year and was due to open last month. "We are not giving up on the project," a spokesperson for DB Schenker, the transportation arm of Deuutsche Bahn, which is running the service. "We will offer the service this year"...
