Bev Perdue called the state of emergency order a precaution so the state could better use its resources to respond. She said she hoped the snowfall was enough for kids to have fun, but urged drivers to stay off the road... Officials warned drivers to be wary of road hazards Wednesday as lingering snow could melt and turn to ice... Road crews across the state were expected to salt and sand roads throughout the night to combat slick roads as Tuesday's snow began melting and turning into ice with freezing temperatures predicted.
