The company said it notified employees of the new layoffs at the International Truck and Engine Corp plant on Monday... The new round of layoffs takes effect March 2...

Chatham,ONT,CAN -Today's Trucking -7 Jan 2009: -- When Sterling announced it would shut its St. Thomas, Ont. truck plant in March 2009, its rival Navistar International insisted that its nearby Chatham heavy-duty truck facility would not suffer the same fate... Now, in light of more announced layoffs taking effect March 2, the union representing the truckmaker's Chatham workers and local mayors aren't so sure...
* Navistar Sees a Truck Rebound
New York,NY,USA -The Wall St. Journal -January 5, 2009: -- Navistar International Corp. projected fiscal 2009 earnings below analysts' expectations amid what it called a weak North American business climate. But the engine manufacturer's shares rose 23% after the company offered assurances about its liquidity and borrowing capacity and forecast an earlier-than-expected recovery in American truck sales... The company said it expects North American truck sales to recover this year and forecast a stronger rebound in 2010. Chief Executive Daniel Ustian said the industry is likely to remain challenged in 2009... Chief Financial Officer Terry Endsley said the company has sufficient liquidity and borrowing capacity to execute its strategies...

Westlake Village,CAL,USA -Today's Trucking -6 Jan 2009: -- A recent study finds owners of gasoline engines are more satisfied than are diesel engine owners, particularly in the areas of engine performance, engine quality and cost of engine ownership, despite making up only 5 percent of respondents... According to the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Medium-Duty Truck Engine and Transmission Customer Satisfaction Study, truck engine customers in that class cited better reliability and dependability, acceleration when the truck is fully loaded, cost of routine engine maintenance, engine noise and engine vibration... Meanwhile, in the same survey Hino Truck engines rank highest in customer satisfaction among conventional cab medium-duty truck owners, with a score of 794 on a 1,000-point scale, and performs particularly well in engine quality and engine warranty. Mercedes-Benz (758) and Caterpillar (748) follow Hino in the rankings...
* USA - Detroit Diesel to Provide 2010 Engines to Oshkosh
ILL,USA -Transport Topics -7 Jan 2008: -- Specialty truck maker Oshkosh Corp. said Wednesday that Detroit Diesel Corp. will supply engines to Oshkosh’s fire and emergency businesses... DDC, a unit of Daimler Trucks North America, will provide DD13 diesel engines compliant with 2010 U.S. Environmental Protection agency emissions standards, Oshkosh said in a statement... The engines will use selective catalytic reduction technology, and Daimler has manufactured more than 200,000 SCR diesel trucks in Europe and around the world, the statement said...
