* USA - Navistar cuts 250 workers as part of truck unit revamp

Chicago,ILL,USA -Reuters -Dec 9, 2008: -- Navistar International Corp., the U.S. truck and engine maker, told 250 salaried workers they will lose their jobs on Tuesday, a spokesman told Reuters... The cuts are part of a revamp of the company's truck operations announced in November, a reorganization the company said was designed to align its operations with "market conditions," including "one of the worst North American truck markets in recent history"... Navistar employs 17,000 workers worldwide...


* USA - Daimler delivers natural gas trucks

CAL,USA -eTrucker, by Max Kvidera -9 Dec 2008: -- Owner-operators contracted to drayage company California Cartage are gaining access to new liquefied natural gas-powered trucks from Daimler Trucks North America under a program to clear the air and reduce pollution at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach... Cal Cartage is taking delivery of 132 Sterling Set-back 113-inch, 320-hp daycabs by the end of the year as part of a long-term plan to make trucks under its control greener. * USA - Daimler gets $129M military truck contract

Portland,ORE,USA -The Portland Business Journal -December 9, 2008: -- Daimler Trucks North America’s Portland plant was awarded a $129 million contract to build series of heavy-duty military trucks for the U.S. Army... The contract, awarded Friday, calls for adding 603 M916A3 Light Equipment Transporters — military-grade tractor trailers — to a previous contract... According to the Department of Defense Web site, the work is to be performed at the German company’s Portland plant, which is slated to shut down in 2010. The work is expected to be complete by Sept. 18, 2009... Daimler had received an earlier $165.9 million order for the same trucks in October 2007, according to Defense Industry Daily...


* USA - Oshkosh receives $250M Army order

Oshkosh,WI,USA -The Business Journal of Milwaukee/Bizjournals.com (Charlotte,NC,USA) -December 9, 2008: -- Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corp., has been awarded a $250 million contract modification with the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command to manufacture and deliver an additional 825 of the next-generation heavy expanded mobility tactical trucks (HEMTT)... Under the contract, which is part of the company's Family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles contract, Oshkosh-based Oshkosh Corp. will supply load handling system variants of the next-generation HEMTT – the HEMTT A4...
