* Sweden - Scania cuts production as global orders fall 41%
London,UK -The Road Transport -28 October 2008: -- Scania has become the third truck manufacturer in a matter of weeks to reveal plans to cut production in Europe... After months of long lead times, Volvo, Daf and now Scania are feeling the pinch as operators cut back their purchasing in light of the credit crunch. Swedish manufacturer Scania has revealed that truck orders fell by a staggering 41% globally in the third quarter to 30 September. In Western Europe orders were down by 69%, while in Central and Eastern Europe the figure was 45%...
* DAF may cut jobs in Netherlands and Belgium
Holland -The World Trucks Blog -23 October 2008: -- Lorry manufacturer DAF is considering scrapping hundreds of jobs say unions in the Netherlands and Belgium... Belgian union ABVV says more than 750 jobs will be lost at DAF Trucks Belgium. DAF Eindhoven is also considering cuts, mainly among temporary staff. More than 6,000 people work at DAF Eindhoven; 25 percent of them are temporary... Demand for lorries has stagnated as a result of the credit crisis. Some orders have even been cancelled. DAF is part of the US concern Paccar, which has made lower profits because of falling sales in North America, Europe and Australia...
* Belarus - High import duty prevents MAZ-MAN from exporting trucks to EU, CEO says
Minsk,Belarus -Belorusskie Novosti -3 Nov 2008: -- MAZ-MAN is interested in exports to the European Union but is deterred by the 27-nation bloc’s high import duty on vehicles, Alyaksandr Kartynnik, director of the truck manufacturer, told a group of visiting foreign reporters in Minsk last week... The executive noted that the company had business partners in 11 European countries, including Austria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Sweden and the UK, the Agency of Business Relations reported... The company, an official dealer of MAN AG, is expected to sell at least 400 MAN trucks and no fewer than 100 Krone semi-trailers to Belarusian customers in 2008, he said... MAZ-MAN exports half of its output, mainly to Russia and other CIS countries, according to Mr. Kartynnik... MAZ-MAN was founded in 1998 by Germany’s MAN Nutsfahrzeuge AG, the Belarusian Automobile Factory (MAZ), and Belarus’ Lada OMS Holding...
