DANGEROUS TRUCKS * UK - Foreign trucks pose 'obvious dangers' in Wales
South Wales,UK -The Road Transport/Commercial Motor, by David Harris -30 October 2008: -- The number of defective and overloaded foreign trucks being stopped on three major roads in South Wales, by the South Wales Police that out of 101 cases where the result of being stopped was recorded, 24 were found to be insecure, overloaded or with mechanical defects. A further 14 resulted in drivers' hours prohibitions... Plaid Cymru's Chris Franks, Welsh Assembly member for South Wales Central, says: "The dangers to other motorists and pedestrians are obvious. We have heard this week that some foreign lorry drivers work such long hours they are reporting themselves to police to be sure they get a rest from driving... Unscrupulous foreign firms are pushing some drivers to work over their hours. Tired drivers are a threat to the rest of us."...
