Washington,DC,USA -Traffic World, by Ari Natter -29 Sept 2008: -- Surcharge pass-through legislation for Department of Defense freight contracts cleared Congress Saturday and is expected to be signed into law by President Bush... The provision, contained in the Department of Defense authorization bill, requires motor carriers and brokers under contract with the DOD to pass through any fuel surcharge to the person responsible for paying for the fuel... Roughly 95 percent of DOD freight is moved by commercial entities, said Rod Nofziger, director of government affairs for the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association...
* USA - Con-way Multimodal Enhances Quick Pay

Gallagher -1 Oct 2008: -- Con-way Multimodal, the nationwide truckload brokerage division of Menlo Worldwide Logistics, launched an enhanced Quick Pay program which could bring revenue back from the people it pays to carry goods... Leveraging the tight economy and the need some carriers may have to receive payment more promptly than in good times, Con-way is offering to speed the process for a fee... Under Con-way Multimodal's new Quick Pay program, carriers can opt to receive payments through direct deposit, paper check or electronic funds transfer. Immediate pay is available for a three percent processing fee, and seven-day pay for a two percent fee. There is no charge for the standard 30-day pay schedule...
* Canada - Tolls removed from British Columbia highway
BC,CAN -Land Line Magazine, by David Tanner -October 2, 2008: -- A highway in Western Canada that was built with toll revenue is paid for and the tolls have been removed, British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell has announced... Tolls collected since 1986 have paid off the $848-million price tag for the Coquihalla Highway connecting the city of Hope to Kamloops, British Columbia... “Removing the tolls will mean literally hundreds of dollars annually in the pockets of British Columbians who regularly use the highway,” Campbell stated Friday, Sept. 26... “It will also mean thousands of dollars in annual saving for truckers who account for 20 percent of highway traffic along the corridor but pay more than half of the total toll revenue"...
