The government presented a range of options for new fuel efficiency standards Friday that the auto industry would need to meet during the next decade

The fleet of new cars and trucks would have to hit estimated requirements of 29.6 miles per gallon to 33.6 mpg by 2015, according to an environmental impact document released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration... The estimates, listed in the 2,960-page document, provide a range of mileage requirements that encompass a NHTSA proposal released earlier this year to require the fleet to reach 31.6 mpg by 2015...
