Surcharge * Australia - Will extend disruptions into night
Sydney,New South Wales,Australia -The Sydney Morning Herald, by Brian Robins -September 18, 2008: -- The State Government will introduce a surcharge on goods passing in and out of Port Botany at peak times, which will force more trucks to load and unload during the afternoon and night, causing substantial disruption to residents... The Government said yesterday the new moves would reduce peak-time congestion at the port. Overseas, when peak pricing was introduced at places such as Los Angeles and Long Beach on the west coast of the United States, off-peak truck movements rose by as much as 40 per cent... Trucking movements in Botany and a range of neighbouring suburbs could be affected if warehouse operators respond to pressure to handle more traffic outside peak periods, including at night...
