Laws * Mexico - Confiscating US Trucks
Mexico -The Fast Report (USA), by Dan Riehl -10 Aug 2008: -- The Mexican government actually can get a handle on its border when it sets its mind to it. It is against Mexican law to fill extra fuel tanks for transport back into the US... Evidently some long-range truckers have been taking advantage of Mexico’s lower prices for diesel fuel - having an auxiliary tank means they are breaking the law... Thinking with their wallets, and avoiding $4.59/gallon fuel prices, truck owners in the States have been sneaking across the Mexican border to fill up with low-cost diesel (in Mexico, the fuel averages just $2.20/gallon). While filling a primary fuel tank isn’t illegal, Mexico prohibits additional fuel tanks (aka auxiliary tanks) to be filled and moved across the border, so many truck owners with long-range tanks are finding themselves breaking Mexican federal law... Trucks are being seized at the border for evaluation of the fuel in their tanks. If found in violation, truckers could lose their truck and face stiff fines. Additionally, Mexican diesel is not in line with US standards. That presents the potential for damage to a trucks emissions components - as if these particular truckers haven’t already gotten rid of them... (Photo: Mexicans' controls on route)

Got it wrong again guy!
The Mexican government is NOT seizing vehicles of long haul truckers.
They are trying to get a handle on Americans who come across the border with diesel pickup trucks 1/2 ton to 1 ton with an external tank in the bed or who try to fill barrels to take back across the border to sell.
This has absolutely nothing to do with long haul trucking. Simply American cheapskates trying to save a buck
