Parsippany, NJ,USA -The Daily Record, by Meghan Van Dyk-August 10, 2008: --In his 28 years as a professional truck driver,Kevin Wilkeninghas seen it all -- drivers talking on cell phones, applying make-up, shaving and even typing on laptops. But distracted drivers are just one of the obstacles the 47-year-old faces everyday in his big rig..."There's no time for a break,"Wilkeningsaid. "You've got to be alert at all times, watching mirrors, making sure there is enough time to brake, enough room to turn. Truck drivers are held to a higher standard -- there's no room for error"... So far,the Washington Township resident has been lucky on the road, accumulating more than 750,000 accident-free miles working forParsippany-basedFedEx National LTLover the past 11 years... In July, Wilkeningnot only won the 4-Axle title atthe state Truck Driving Championship, he was also namedthe state's Rookie of the Yearfor receiving the top score among all first-year competitors... He is now headed tothe National Truck Driving Championships in Houston on Aug. 20to compete against 400 of the best drivers in the country...
