Truckers speak out * USA - About tanker truck spill

This weekend's tanker truck accident got truck drivers talking about the dangers of their job

Knoxville,TN,USA -WBIR/TV, by Yvette Martinez -14 July 2008: -- ... Truckers say other drivers don't always understand what it takes to stop an 18 wheeler... Truck driver Marion Hampton says truckers often get the blame for serious accidents, but smaller vehicles need to be aware of the limits big trucks have... "It takes at least 2 to 3 car lengths to stop a truck. And even though everybody says you've got 18 wheels, but 18 wheels is not it. When you're carrying 41 or42,000 pounds, that equals out to about 79 or 80 thousand pounds in some trucks, because some trucks are heavy. And when you try to stop that significant amount of weight, that's one of the most hardest things to do regardless of what kind of brake system you have." Hampton said... (SEE VIDEO)
