HARD DRIVERS * USA - Recruiting a workforce
Ann Arbor firm & Army team, up to find and train right people for jobs
Detroit,Mich,USA -Freep, by MARGARITA BAUZA -July 2, 2008: -- The military wants to help fill Michigan jobs while solving its own recruiting challenges... The U.S. Army Reserves and the Ann Arbor-based trucking company Con-way Freight are launching a partnership aimed at helping each other in recruiting and training efforts... Under the nationwide initiative, the Army Reserves and participating companies share employees, training and recruiting in areas of high demand to both, such as medical technology and transportation.... Under the agreement, to be signed today, the Army Reserves will recruit truckers from the area, and Con-way will find them a job within the company once they complete training... The reserves has agreements with other companies nationwide and has also launched a partnership with the American Trucking Association that will allow both to collaborate on recruiting... The program will also recruit active-duty members who are transitioning from the Army Reserves into civilian careers in trucking... Because of mutual recruiting challenges, he thought the Army and the civilian world should help each other with the shortages... Trucking companies need individuals who are able to pass a drug test, have specific physical capabilities, be able to navigate across country and pass background screenings... (Photo by REGINA H. BOONE/DFP - The deal in Michigan is to be signed today. Con-way President John Labrie says it's a natural one: "We get access to a pool of talented and motivated employees, and we help out the country and the people that are serving our country.")
