* Caterpillar, Navistar to jointly make, sell trucks
Chicago,ILL,USA -Reuters -Jun 12, 2008: -- Caterpillar Inc. and Navistar International Corp. are forming an alliance to jointly build and sell a variety of trucks worldwide, the companies said on Thursday... The agreement is a sign that the North American truck-making industry is consolidating along the lines of the business in Europe... The news also quashed speculation that Caterpillar would exit the on-highway truck engine business, a market that has recently provided the company with more challenges than opportunities... However, Caterpillar will stop supplying engines to other North American manufacturers of these vehicles, starting with the introduction of engines designed to comply with 2010 U.S. clean-air rules... As a result, Caterpillar's archrival in the diesel engine space, Cummins Inc., now looks poised to capture more of the North American market in coming years, analysts said...
* Kenworth To Show T370 Hybrid Utility Truck
USA -Layover -11 June 2008: -- Kenworth Truck Company will display a medium duty diesel-electric hybrid utility truck and participate in a drive-through demonstration at the 55th annual Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference (EUFMC) in Williamsburg, Va., June 15 to 18... Kenworth goals for the medium duty hybrids are to enhance fuel economy by up to 50 percent in utility operations and by up to 30 percent in pickup and delivery applications. The Kenworth hybrid utility truck is equipped with a utility bucket atop a boom.
