Siemens builds 190,000-pound piece of oil technology for Canadian company

Rothschild,WI,USA -The Wausau Daily Herald (Wausau,WI), by Mark Multer -February 4, 2008: -- If you're out and about in the Rothschild area tonight, you might catch a glimpse of one of the longest tractor-trailers in North America as it begins a 3,200-mile journey to Alberta, Canada... The rig is so large the trip is expected to take weeks... The 230-foot truck will haul a 190,000-pound piece of equipment built by Siemens Water Technologies in Rothschild as part of a $70 million project for a company called OPTI Canada. The Canadian company will use the technology to remove hazardous waste from water used to pull crude oil from the oil sands near Fort McMurray, Alberta... Without the treatment system, the company would need to continue to haul the byproduct to a landfill for disposal... (A 230-foot tractor-trailer sits in the parking lot behind Siemens Water Technologies in Rothschild, waiting to carry its 190,000-pound load to Canada. The truck has 19 axles, 90 wheels and weighs about 200,000 pounds. Photo courtesy of Siemens Water Technologies)
