* Driver Recalls Harrowing Hour Pinned in Truck - A 49-ton garbage truck tipped over onto Polk man's vehicle
Lakeland,FL,USA -The Ledger, by Rick Rousos -February 23, 2008: -- Jody Franks spent that hour on Feb. 11 in his crushed and sporadically burning pickup. In extreme jeopardy - badly injured, trapped and scared - what stood between Franks and freedom was the weight of a fully-loaded 49-ton garbage truck that had tipped over and landed on his trusty pickup... A Florida Refuse garbage truck, driven by 41-year-old Mike Crittenden, was heading west on SR 540 and turned right onto DeCastro. The truck was apparently going too fast for the turn, and Crittenden was cited for careless driving... "I was right behind the Florida Refuse guy," said Frank Kersey, a driver for Trash Taxi. "When he took that turn, he never hit his brakes"... Kersey, the Trash Taxi hauler who had a great view of the wreck from immediately behind it, said it's been a few weeks, but he still can't believe that Franks lived to talk about the accident... Provincial court Judge Sandra Hamilton denied a Crown application to keep Tschetter behind bars, effectively overturning two earlier rulings... Tschetter, 50, was initially denied bail by a justice of the peace on Dec. 8, just hours after he allegedly plowed his cement truck into a car stopped at a red light... Tschetter was arrested at the scene of the Dec. 7 crash in the city's southeast after a northbound car stopped at a red light was crushed and dragged hundreds of metres...
